South Charleston Public Library is governed by a Board of Directors. Board members are appointed for five-year terms of office by the City of South Charleston. The five person panel consists of the President, Secretary-Treasurer, and three Members-at-Large. Board members serve without compensation.

The Library Board meets monthly (fourth Monday) in the Library office. Board meetings are open to the public. Matters taken up by the Board include hiring of the Library Director, approval of annual budget, review of fiscal control, approval of additions or changes to library policies, and approval of bids for major maintenance or construction projects.

Current Board Members are: Janet Kawash, President; Mark Lambert, Secretary-Treasurer; Donna Estep, Member-at-Large; Susannah Johnson, Member-at-Large; Phillis Shawver, Member-at-Large.
